Fitting thought of the day...

I have come to the conclusion that not every post I write can be about Life Insurance or other business stuff. Few people have the ability to live and breath what they do 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. So I guess I am normal. I have been living normal for a long time, so I decided that is time to no longer be normal. So it has taken me the better part of 40 years, ok, 25 years to finally come to a conclusion that habits shape who you are.
About 20 years ago, i was loaned an audio tape series called, 21 Days To Freedom. The speaker was a psychologist, Clifford something I think. The purpose behind the series was that who we are and what we do are shaped by our habits. Whether they are good habits or bad habits, they shape us. The idea was that any habit could be changed or established by doing something contiuous for 21 straight days. Whether it be eating healthy, quitting smoking, exercising reading, you name it, do it for 21 days, it will become a habit. So, in my quest to be a better husband, father, businessman, financial advisor, blogger, person etc...(the list could go on forever), it is time for new habits.

One of the cornerstones to creating or changing habits, is discipline. Discipline lies within an area about 6 inches wide, by 8 inches long, and somewhat oval in shape. It's called your head, and inside is your brain. We have total control of the decisions we make, right or wrong. Discipline is doing something when you don't feel like doing it, because it is the right thing to do. It is too easy not to do the neccessary. It is easy to procrastinate the important. Tomorrow no longer has room for the unfinished of today.

Everyday will begin with a list. The purpose of the word "habit" was given to me tonight. I am not sure why, but I figured it was fitting. So, each day I will blog. I must make it a habit. It is important to me, and to what I want to accomplish. The reasons may be explained later. It may not always be about the Inusurance industry, or the trials and tribulations of being a business owner, but it will be about something. I may take a day off, but it will be spent doing something more important that I deem at that time. Let the good habits begin! See you tomorrow.

Where does the time go?

Well it has been a couple of weeks since my last post. We have been quite busy since our 21st Century Insurance Consumer seminar. The seminar was quite a success and generated a lot of interest. Life Insurance consumers are just like any other consumer in the 21st century, they want to do their research on their own time, in their own homes, and are prepared before making a decision. That is why The Benefit Guys, are preparing ourselves for them.

In other news, as winter approaches, so does the desire to head south. We have been blessed with an unusually warm and dry November, but sure enough, Old Man Winter is not too far away. If you are heading south, do not over look the need for travel insurance. It will be the least expensive thing you purchase on your vacation. Without it, your vacation could be the most expensive trip you ever take!

Lastly, as the new year quickly approaches, The Benefit Guys expect to have some exciting information to announce in the 1st quarter of 2010. Stay tuned!

Has the Group insurance market become stagnant?

For the past year, The Benefit Guys have focused a lot of their attention in the Group Insurance market. With the Do Not Call legislation in effect, and the government monitoring and prosecuting offenders, calling on your average family for Life Insurance sales can be a risky thing unless you have purchased and follow the Do Not Call List. Who would have predicted the collapse of the economy in late 2008 and most of 2009. It has been our experience, that a lot of business owners have been in a wait and see mode. If they already have packages, the insurance companies have been discounting rates to keep them on the books to justify the decrease in new business. For those without benefit packages, business owners are in no hurry to add any new expenses to their bottom line. However, small businesses, i.e. husband and wife, can really take advantage of things like Health Spending Accounts, to take the money they are already spending, and make it tax deductible to their company at a very minimal cost. As for everyone else, we see 2010 as a year of incredible opportunity as the economy officially gets on the road to recovery and companies start to lighten their purse strings a little. So is the market stagnant? There is definitely business being done, but not at the rate it once was. As confidence builds amongst business owners, new business will definitely come back.

In today's day and age, it is very common to have a home office. It is also very common to have a mobile office. I just decided to label mine. Now I just have to make sure that my bluetooth still works for my cell phone headset for the new laws taking place the end of this month. I wonder if I get mobile internet for my laptop, perhaps I can get around the laws using Skype or MSN? If you see this sign ahead of you, be sure to keep your distance!

Has it been that long?

I was doing some certification earlier this week in order to maintain my Life Insurance License. As I went through my files, I realized it has been 9 yrs, going on 10 since I first wrote the examination. Where does the time go? I can't believe what has transpired in that short of time. Marriage, children, home ownership. So much has changed. My wife and I were discussing just the other night how time seems to speed up. I hope it is only temporary. There is too much to do and too little time to do it all in.
